Dear Mrs. Boutilier:
My capstone project will be hair cut to the youth and donating food to the homeless. Since I started at SMSA and was informed that I would be taking this class as a senior, I pretty much knew that this is the project that I wanted to do. My goal after graduating SMSA will be attending a Barbering School and becoming the best barber I can be with the goal of having my own barbershop in the future. My inspiration has been Vic Blends and my dad. One of the main reasons why I decided to do this project is because I’ve always wanted to help the youth and homeless one way or another. My event will take place on March 28th from 9am to 6pm at the Little Compton Community Center (LCCC). It will be free haircuts for 18 and under with a free donation of a food pantry item. My covid safety plan will go as follows: masks required at all times, one parent/guardian per child and clients must wait in the car until their scheduled appointment. This event will benefit the Little Compton Senior Lunch Program. Being able to go out to the community and make a difference in the smallest way feels amazing to give back.
My research question is What causes homelessness? Everywhere I go, I see someone in the corner with a sign saying Homeless, Please Help, Hungry, Need Money for Food. Is very difficult to see people in the streets not having nowhere to go, no one to help them in any way. This is the reason why I chose to research the root cause of homelessness.
My mentor is Megan Boudreau, who is a Research Administrator at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and in the community she oversees the advertising, booking, Covid safety procedures and coordination with the LCCC facility director. Her contact information is as follows: (401)-829-5679 and her email is [email protected]. Through this project, I hope to make a difference in someone’s life and show them that there is hope and people do care for them. Through every part of this project it pushes me to accomplish my goal because I’ve always wanted to do something for the youth and homeless people and this is my opportunity to do so.
Sincerely,
Elijah Gonzalez
