I’m finally a Senior and doing it remotely this school year. Not sure what to expect but hoping to do my best. I’ve struggled through the last 3 years in high school with my classes. I have a hard time staying focused and completing my assignments on time. I’ve already thought about my capstone project since I started SMSA in middle school. I want to cut hair for the homeless. My goal is to go to barbering school when I graduate.

As I start this new year 2021, I start thinking of my goals and what I want to accomplish. I’m not realizing how we are already half way through the school year and time is going to go by really fast. At times, I seem to just not take things seriously because there’s time. At least, that’s how it appears to me. I do know one thing that I want to become a barber and that’s been my goal for a very long time. I do understand how important Capstone Class is in order to graduate. I know I need to work harder in my classes and I do recognize that. At moments, I shut down and don’t do anything and show that I don’t care but when the marking period is about to end I tend to pick myself up and work really hard and my mom is always supporting me through it all.

I’m super excited but overwhelmed thinking about my capstone project. I want to make sure that I do everything that I need to do to accomplish my goal through this project, not only to get a good grade but looking forward to making a difference and giving back to the community. It has been challenging trying to juggle everything and getting up early to make it to class on time. I’m trying to work hard in all my classes because it is important for me to graduate this school year. Is hard for me to focus and stay on task but I’m trying really hard. As I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to do my project, I was getting stressed because due to COVID there are many restrictions that makes it difficult to either go to a shelter or transport to a location. I finally was able to figure it out with the help of my mentor and my dad. We all met and picked a date. Once the date was decided, we contacted the Little Compton Community Center (LCCC) to request a room rental form. We completed the form as well as our COVID 19 safety plan for the event. This is a building requirement for all events hosted at the LCCC during the pandemic. Our COVID safety plan is as follows: masks required at all times, one parent/guardian per child, clients must wait in their car until their scheduled appointment. The Little Compton Center approved the date and my event. We created a flyer for the event using a free online program called canva to create the flyer. After the flyer was completed, we used an online booking link to share along with our flyer. It has been quite a journey to get to the point. Time is passing by so quick without you even realizing it. I’m glad to have all that done and now for the big event. Now for the research paper. I’m not the best with that but I will do my best to create a good research paper. I can’t believe that Spring is around the corner. When Spring arrives time goes even faster. I just want to pass all my classes. I still struggle to turn things in on time but I am working on it. One step at a time. It has not been easy this school year but my mom has been a great support through it all.
