Career Field Research
For my career field research I decided to interview my current barber.. He is the owner of Supreme Cuts on Park Street in Hartford. He goes by the nickname, G. While interviewing him, I found out that all I need is a highschool diploma. The environment of the barbershop is very inviting and like a close knit community. Most of the people that work there are friends and they love what they do, so it doesn't really seem like a job. I also found out that frustration and pain does come with this career, such as slow days when you start due to no clientele, and pain due to standing on your feet all day can stress your back out. My barber told me the best part about the job is seeing the smiles on the clients face after he sees himself with the haircut, and the worst part is just standing on your feet all day, but besides that he loves what he does. Another topic we touched base on was the salary and benefits. He told me the salary is based on how good you do and who comes back, but benefits do not come with it because it's a trade. I personally think just knowing how to cut hair is a good benefit. Interviewing my barber really just made me more excited for the career I'm going into because he is such a humble and happy guy and so is everyone else in that barbershop. What I got out of this is that the career I am going for, I want to continue going for it. Also, I'm very excited for school to be over because while I'm going to barber school at Major League barber school, I will be also working part time at G’s barber shop, Supreme Cuts.
